IMAP/SMTP Settings for Common Providers

Last updated March 16, 2026

Configure Email Provider

MailDesk connects to your email account via IMAP (receiving) and SMTP (sending). Here are the settings for the most common providers.

Gmail / Google Workspace

  • IMAP: imap.gmail.com, Port 993, SSL/TLS
  • SMTP: smtp.gmail.com, Port 587, STARTTLS
  • Important: You must create an app password (Google Account → Security → App Passwords). Your regular password will not work.

Microsoft 365 / Outlook

  • IMAP: outlook.office365.com, Port 993, SSL/TLS
  • SMTP: smtp.office365.com, Port 587, STARTTLS
  • Important: IMAP must be enabled in the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. If multi-factor authentication is enabled, you need an app password.

Own Mail Server

  • Ask your hosting provider for the IMAP/SMTP credentials
  • Typical ports: IMAP 993 (SSL) or 143 (STARTTLS), SMTP 587 (STARTTLS) or 465 (SSL)
  • Make sure the firewall allows the corresponding ports

Tip

MailDesk encrypts all passwords with AES-256-GCM before they are stored in the database. Your credentials are secure.
